In 2026, Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels is supporting the Setagaya Public Theatre for the presentation of Alter Ego by by Akaji Maro and Éric-Maria Couturier.

Born in 1943, Akaji Maro began his career in the underground theater scene in Tokyo before founding the Dairakudakan, a leading company in Butoh dance, in 1972. With his company, he has performed around the world. He has worked alongside Hijikata, Mishima and Araki, and collaborated with Jeff Mills. A multi-award winner, Maro created GOLDEN SHOWER in 2020 with François Chaignaud, followed by Alter Ego in 2024. His latest piece, Brain, premiered in Tokyo the same year. Also an actor, Maro has appeared in over 100 films, including Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill.
