Training Diaspora Africa: The Black Imaginary
École des Sables

In 2025, Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels is supporting the École des Sables for a special module on The Black Imaginary, as part of Training Diaspora Africa.
The course aims to enhance the skills of African dancers, choreographers and performers as well as others in the diaspora, and to initiate a lasting dialogue between these different participants, each of whom has knowledge to pass on and discover.
The 2025 training session will focus on the artistic skills of the invited dancers, choreographers and performers from Africa and the diaspora, while establishing a continuous exchange of knowledge and creativity between them. The program explores and celebrates a Black aesthetic in all its complexity and originality, encouraging an unfetishized representation of Black beauty, power and spirituality. By reimagining and reinterpreting their stories through dance, the participants are encouraged to freely express their individuality and draw on a rich Black imaginary that transcends conventional boundaries.
Part of École des Sables' professional training modules, the course is open to 25 dancers from the continent and its diaspora, with the aim of honing their skills as dancers, performers and choreographers. These artists must have at least three years of professional experience and be fluent in French and/or English.
